Any item of footwear that sells 4 million pairs in 48 different countries in its first 2 years of production must be worthy of serious consideration and FitFlops with their “Microwobbleboard technology” are certainly worthy of such consideration. Produced from an idea by Marcia Kilgore and designed by two expert biomechanics from London’s Southbank University Human Performance Centre after two years of tests FitFlops quickly gained popularity when they hit the market.

They are a type of open toed sandal based on the popular flipflop design that is as popular as a casual item of footwear much loved by that on vacation or just as a casual item for wear around the home or in leisure time. The difference is that the FitFlop is designed to tone and trim the legs whilst walking which has proved to be a popular idea adopted by the public with the emphasis on women.

Marcia hit on this idea whilst listening to an international discussion on cellulite and realising that not all women had the time or the inclination to attend the gym or go jogging or do any form of public exercising. She came up with the “workout while walking” idea that was to quickly become the subject of debate and excitement amongst the public and the media. Marcia had realised that women would do almost anything to stop the onset of cellulite and that a simple solution that meant that busy moms could go about their errands but still tackle the problem of cellulite was what stimulated her to investigate the possibilities of footwear that would be a benefit to busy moms.

She had not realised that testimonials would pour in praising not only the ideas she had but to link the idea to relief from chronic back pain, from knee problems, and feet problems and the design was then given the Seal of Approval from the American Podiatric Medical Association and the FitFlop was a huge success.
