The friendship and camaraderie with yoga mats
My buddies and I went out to the bar one evening and the conversation turned to exercise and the comradeship it encouraged. I had only known one of these guys when I first joined the weights class and now here we were meeting like old friends debating life and any other subject that arose. Someone had mentioned that we looked like a wrestler’s convention with our muscular bodies and different styles of hair and dress. “That’s the beauty of sport” said Wayne thoughtfully.” You make some good friends and it makes everything so much easier even the weights seem easier to lift with you guys around.” “I suppose we all like to compete and if you have friends there you try that bit harder,” I said and heard murmurs of agreement.
“I suppose it must be the same with all activities”, said Bob. “You all have a common aim and you have something to talk about. It’s terrible when you go to party at someone’s house trying to find a subject that you have in common”, he added. “Yes I think that’s why so many people discuss the weather so much or try to steer the conversation to politics. It’s an attempt to find common ground. We continued to discuss activities and camaraderie for some time and everyone was quite light hearted about it and suddenly Bob laughed.”We were talking about all activities giving you common ground so that you try harder and are comfortable chatting. My wife does yoga and I was imagining them all putting their yoga mats side by side”.
We all laughed at Bob’s comment and others joined in saying that they suspected that the girls tried to out-meditate the girl on the next yoga mat. How can they talk if they are meditating someone said and another guy said why bother going to the gym if your companions were going to sit in silence. Perhaps the yoga mats unite and speak to each other.
