Marcia Kilgore had an idea whilst listening to an international gathering that was discussing cellulite. It was a strange idea that she could produce footwear that was “a workout while you walked”. She enlisted the aid of two expert biomechanics from London’s South Bank University and they spent two years developing what was basically a flip flop but named it FitFlops and Marcia could not have foreseen the impact her design would have.
FitFlops use microwobbleboard technology that is designed to make the wearer use their bottom, thigh and lower leg muscles in order to maintain balance. This is claimed to tone and trim these muscles thereby helping to eliminate cellulite. The company makes no other claims about FitFlops but publishes testimonials that claim much wider reaching benefits. There are claims about leg and feet problems and looking on the internet there is no reason to doubt such claims.
The only complaints that could be found were mainly to do with the front strap which does cause irritation to some people but this is usually caused by buying the wrong size shoe as opposed to any technical fault. The other complaint is that they cannot use the shoe when attending business meetings as they are not formal enough but the complaints in these cases were from people who did not want to take them off because they were so comfortable.
Although Marcia and her team set out to eliminate cellulite it is obvious that they have a product that has far wider reaching implications in the podiatry field. They now have the Seal of Approval from the American Podriatic Medical Association so they are obviously doing something right and if they help just a few people who suffer from back pain or knee and ankle pain surely it is worth it.
